Steve Jobs: Resigns As Apple Ceo

Steve Jobs is stepping down from his position as the CEO of Apple, the company announced today. Jobs has been dealing with serious health issues for several years now, having undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004 and a liver transplant in 2009. He is currently on medical leave. In a letter released by Apple, Jobs addressed the company he’s led since his return from exile in 1996: “I have always said that if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s C.E.O., I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, will replace Jobs, who will transition into the role of Apple’s chairman. Arguably the most successful chief executive in Silicon Valley history, if not corporate history in general, Jobs will leave some very large shoes to fill. via New York Times
